Planting of Barrels and Baskets
An early springtime project involving numerous volunteers who plant the barrels and baskets around town in cooperation with the Richmond Hill Parks and Recreation Department. This project beautifies our town and the flowers are admired by both residents and visitors.
Heritage Centre Herb Bed
This garden at the Amos Wright Heritage Centre on Church Street is planted and maintained by society volunteers during the summer months.
Hill House Hospice
Volunteers take care of the flower beds, providing beauty for patients, caregivers and visitors.
Tulip Bulb Naturalization
After flowering, the bulbs are taken up from the beds in the town parks for recycling. Bulbs are dried, stored and distributed to society members for planting.
York Central Hospital Rose Garden
The first rose bed at York Central Hospital was planted in 1976: from then until the hospital expansion began in 2005, the rose beds were maintained by our members. Construction at the site necessitated the relocation of the roses, which are in the process of renewal.
The Millennium Garden
Established in 2001 this garden is in a high traffic area adjacent to Mill Pond Park and contains a wide selection of perennials. Society volunteers maintain the garden weekly through the growing season.
The Gladys McLatchy Memorial Garden: Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts
This new garden, planted in the Fall of 2009 by our members, was planned in tandem with the Parks and Recreation Department. The garden is our gift to the Town in memory of the horticultural contributions of Gladys McLatchy, and includes peonies that were originally from her garden.
York Day Care Centre
A garden playground was started in 1999 to encourage young children to learn about gardening. This intergenerational project has been quietly continuing, with visits throughout the year from a few dedicated members.
Heritage Village Day, Saturday, June 9
This annual event is held on Yonge Street. Our booth attracts visitors, old friends, local gardeners and new home owners. If you are in the area, drop by and visit our booth.
Healthy Yards, Saturday, May 26
Visit us at this event sponsored by the Natural Heritage Division of the Parks and Recreation Department to educate residents about healthy lawn and gardening practices.
